The Dodge WC56 Command Car was used for liaison and staff officer transport in the American and Allied armies.
Dodge Brothers Corporation, military automobile division of the Chrysler Corporation, produced the first prototypes in 1939. The WC range comprised 38 different models. The vehicles belonged to the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton light truck category.
The Dodge family is one of the results of the formidable war machine of the United States. The extreme standardisation applied to these vehicles made them indispensable products in the same way as the Jeep and the GMC CCKW. The principal qualities of the Dodge were its reliability and its robustness in all climatic conditions
The Dodge WC56 is a command vehicle. Total production was 21,156. It had seats for five persons and was fitted with a map table so that officers could track battlefield operations. Removable canvas roof and side doors supplemented the bodywork and meant that the vehicle could be made fully open, facilitating tactical movement in all weathers.
