The Tank Rent M7 B1 “Priest” self-propelled howitzer is the only known example in a French collection. There are very few surviving examples around the world.

The configuration of the machine gun ring, located front-right, gave the M7 B1 its nickname “Priest”. Intended as the mount for a 12.7 mm machine gun, its shape evokes a church pulpit.

History

At the beginning of the Second World War, the Americans decided to produce a self-propelled howitzer to support the infantry. The first M7s, in February 1942, were in fact based on the M3 medium tank chassis modified with a low silhouette, limiting the firing elevation angle to 35°. From September 1943, the M7 was upgraded to version M7 B1, based on the Sherman M4 A3 chassis.

Our M7B1 has been fully restored with the greatest care, in strict conformity to the original. The engine, the tracks and the wheels are new.  It is in perfect working order, with all its contemporary accessories and equipment, and regularly takes part in commemorations.

The Tank Rent M7 B1 self-propelled howitzer has all its documents: prefectural possession permit order, certificate of neutralisation (disarming).
