Battle tanks

The Sherman M4 tank was designed by the Americans to be simple, effective, fast, and easy to manufacture.

The Tank Rent Sherman M4 A1 Oklahoma is the only example of the “Normandy-Battle of the Hedges” configuration listed in France. The Grizzly is a Canadian adaptation of the M4 A1, retaining the single-casting upper hull.

History

Production of the Sherman M4 A1 version totalled 6,281 from February 1942 to December 1943, out of a total of more than 49,000 Sherman tanks. The Sherman was the successor of the Grant M3 Medium Tank, retaining many of its components with modifications. However, it was less powerful than its German adversaries and its armour less effective. There were many variants of the Sherman, most concerning the production armament and the engine.

Some twenty examples of the M4 A1 "Grizzly" in working order are listed, including half a dozen in France.

Our tank has been restored with care, in the strict original Normandy “Battle of the Hedges” configuration with its front hedge cutter. The turret is in perfect working order, and the tank has an independent internal generator. The engine is restored to as-new condition, and new tracks and wheels have been fitted. It is in perfect working order, with its contemporary accessories and equipment, and regularly takes part in commemorations.

This Tank Rent Sherman M4 A1 has all its documents: prefectural possession permit order, certificate of neutralisation (disarming).
